Phosphophyllite

You should just pray wholeheartedly for happiness.

i will be using he/they to address Phos as their genders aren't confirmed, but Phos uses "ぼく".. also cuz they just rocks.. SPOILERS AHEAD

Phosphophyllite grapples with a myriad of challenges – brittle with a hardness scale of 3, adorned with a color favored by the lunarians, and inept at tasks performed effortlessly by their fellow gems. Noisy, impulsive, and overconfident, Phos is assigned the unlikely task of creating an encyclopedia. This duty, coupled with a promise to Cinnabar, leads to a loss of motivation.

When Phos is faced with a dilemma, they often make drastic decisions to incite change, whether its within themselves (initially suggested by Dia) or something around them. Simply, Phos loses all their body parts because they wanted to help others. He decides to go out to sea (off limits) and ends up with a new pair of legs, he takes on the winter job with Antarctite and loses his arms. Phos even loses their head and has it replaced by Lapis Lazuli's, possibly giving them a change in demeanor- more unintentionally than before. The more of their body they lose, the more of their memories are lost. Phosphophyllite goes through traumatic changes that in result, allow them to overcome their limitations,, to some degree. They become less clumsy, more durable, a skillful fighter. But, is Phosphophyllite still themselves when every constituent part has been replaced?

Despite all this, fundamentally, they haven't changed at all. Cinnabar points out for Phos's thoughts lead to nowhere, to which Phos replies they do lead somewhere- to mistakes. It can be argued that Phos still doesn't think things through. His decisions are extreme, their outcomes just unfortunately cause inordinate change, radical change.

Phos exists in perpetual solitude, surrounded by people yet profoundly alone. Others are present due to concern or necessity, he loses the people who he cares about the most, he's surrounded by those because they need him, only when they need him. Phos may be in contact with a lot of people but none of these people truly accept him. The other gems tell Phos he's done nothing but damage, while doing nothing to help.

Bearing a weight of responsibility and guilt, Phos crumbles under the burden of imposed expectations, he literally loses himself as purpose is assigned.

Over and over again Phos sacrifices themselves. Despite monumental progress, he perceives his efforts as futile. In fact, in his mind he's done nothing at all. He copes with himself by repressing his emotions. Even in his last few seconds of consciousness when confronting sensei, he kindly asks him. Phos becomes desperate and snaps.

Without anyone, he would be free of all burdens.

However, the truth is that Phos never knew what they really wanted. No matter what they gained or sacrificed he would never have been fulfilled.

"I sought for so much, so know everything when i had everything. But i never truly found out what i really wanted."

"happiness... I want happiness."
